Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Farmington Hills
is Celebrating Old and New!

Building on the past for the future, Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Farmington Hills, Michigan, will celebrate its 50th Anniversary and it also mark completion of its $500,000 community center renovation project this September!

Founded in 1958, this year is a milestone in the church’s history, but also a milestone for its future. Prince of Peace is re-opening the doors of its former “fellowship hall” and welcoming opportunities to serve families in the Farmington Hills area with its new community center – the “POP center”. Plans are already underway to provide after-school programs for Dunckel Middle School, a next-door neighbor to Prince of Peace, partnering with the Farmington Hills at the POP Center. In addition, this community center will provide meeting space for ongoing programs with Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, Eating Disorders Anonymous, and Beaumont Hospital Parenting Groups.

“Prince of Peace has many resources to serve families in our community,” shares Pastor Tom Lange. “We have a full-time Family Life and Director of Christian Education Coordinator, a strong Sunday School Program, and many opportunities for Middle School and High School youth to become involved. We continually seek new ways to serve families, and our new community center is an excellent tool to continue this partnership.”

Construction of the community center did not follow a typical model. Laborers for Christ (LFC), an organization within the Lutheran Church- Missouri Synod, was contracted to work with Prince of Peace, leading the project. Laborers for Christ is a volunteer group of retired men and women who work with congregations and other church-related organizations of The Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod to build churches, schools, parish halls, retirement homes, and camp facilities (click to learn more). Their RVs have been their homes while on the construction site as they come from all over the United States to build physically and spiritually renewal within a church community. Relying on their expertise and a selection process that retained local contractors, Prince of Peace was able to significantly reduce construction costs and maintain an expedited project schedule.

In a time of great economic challenge in our region, Prince of Peace celebrates and remains determined to continue to help meet the needs of our neighbors by serving and supporting.
